Focus on The OPEC Fund

Our products & services

The OPEC Fund for International Development is an intergovernmental development finance institution established in 1976 by the member states of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries. The Fund aims to promote cooperation between OPEC member countries and other developing countries as an expression of South-South solidarity, and to help particularly the poorer, low-income countries in pursuit of their social and economic advancement.

In 2005, the OPEC Fund commissioned Menecon Consulting to carry out a detailed approasial of a project to rehabilitate the Havana electricity network. In light of our findings, the Fund decided to lend $10 million to Havana Electricity Distribution Company to part-finance the project.

For more details about the activities of the Fund, go to www.opecfund.org.
